The Punderdome® Pun Competition
The Punderdome®, New York City’s wild & crazy monthly pun competition – created and hosted by comedian Jo Firestone and her “Rodney Dangerfield impersonator” dad Fred, is coming to the Blueberry Hill Duck Room!! Pun-masters will be determined by the “Human Clap-O-Meter” who “accurately and scientifically” assesses levels of audience applause. The top two compunitors will win: town bragging rights, “As Seen on TV” products, and the opportunity to strut their pun-stuff in our monthly show in the Big Apple! Warning for the faint of heart: the ’Dome is THE spectator sport; it gets loud – decide to attend at your own risk!
Part of NYC’s comedy landscape for the past six years, The New York Times referred to the Punderdome® as the “hilarious cult-favorite pun competition” and said it was “both an endearingly homemade and impressively high-caliber show during which astute wordsmiths (including a crew of beloved regular punsters) spin clever and very funny puns to a packed house.” GQ Magazine shouted the Punderdome® as one of the “5 Funniest Nights in America,” and quoted comedian Chris Gethard on why it’s great: “The crowd. You’d think you were at the Roman Colosseum. They’re passionate, to a level that feels dangerous. And to reiterate, this is a pun competition.”
- The New Yorker: “(The PUNDERDOME®) was unabashed silliness that I longed to bottle and smuggle out in my purse.”
- The New York Post: “The lowly pun has long been considered the bottom-feeding bristle worm of the comedy world…. That has changed with the arrival of Punderdome, a now monthly event that has turned punning into a high-functioning competition that is equal parts stand-up, beat poetry …”
- St. Louis Post-Dispatch: “When Jo Firestone left her St.Louis home to become a comedian in New York City, she never thought her father would end up as her stage partner.”
Will I be able to sit down?
Some shows have limited seating (or no seating) on a first-come, first-serve basis. Don't worry, though – you will want to be on your feet once the music starts!
Are shows wheelchair accessible?
All shows at Blueberry Hill in the Duck Room are wheelchair accessible via an elevator in the Piano Room hallway. (Please call us 24 hours in advance to coordinate.) A small percentage of shows are in the Elvis Room, which is not accessible.
